Residential Policies and Procedures
Before any moving quote, please remember that basements, attics, and garages store a larger amount of items than a normal room. This can affect your quote. Sometimes, packing and moving those rooms add extra time and impact your final cost.
For safety reasons, please make sure all pets are moved out of your home before the crew arrives, if possible. If not, please keep all dogs tied up and away from the house. This will ensure the crew has easy and clear access to move.
As a policy, our team doesn't move propane tanks, paint, gas, oil, aerosol cans, or any items considered explosive. If you want us to take lawn mowers and other yard equipment on the moving truck, please empty the gas and oil before the day of the move.
Please hire a professional to connect or disconnect any appliances, especially those using gas or water. If you have large outdoor items like patio furniture, swing sets, yard toys, and basketball hoop stands, our truck will fill up more quickly. For any items of excessive value, please double-check your homeowner’s insurance prior to your move.
Finally, ensure our crew can access your front door easily. This will streamline your move. If you live in a condominium, please make sure that our truck can park in front of the units. We also recommend reserving parking spaces and elevators ahead of time, if necessary.
Suggestions for Packing and Unpacking
If you do not choose us to pack your belongings, that's perfectly fine. Just make sure items can't be moved or smashed together. We are not responsible for any damaged items that weren't packed by our professional movers. However, we are responsible for all items our movers pack, as long as we unpack them, too.
For sentimental or valuable items, we do recommend you pack those on your own. Pack clothing on hangers and fold them into boxes. Wardrobe boxes are available for sale for your convenience. These boxes hold 2.5 feet of closet space per box, and shoes can be stored in the bottom of the box. These boxes protect your clothes, but they do take up more space on the truck.
Before moving day, be sure to empty the contents of your furniture drawers into boxes. This will make it easier to move the furniture with less chance of damage. It will also ensure nothing gets lost from inside the drawers in transit. Unfortunately, we are not responsible for any damage caused by furniture moved with items inside.
For an easier, more organized move, consider color coding boxes for each room at your new home. Just put a note or sticker on each door to correspond with your boxes. You can also make note of what's inside your boxes for easier unpacking. Just let us know your plan and system.
Successful Moving Tips
We want you to have a successful moving day. Be sure to keep all small valuables with you. You should also hold onto any items you may need in an emergency with you. This includes cash, checkbooks, jewelry, prescriptions, glasses, and so on.
Be extra mindful of all items that can easily spill, break, or any valuables, to avoid damage to other belongings. They also could potentially harm you, your family, or our crew. Please note any dangerous items before packing or moving them.
If you own any grandfather or grandmother clocks, please have them prepared by a professional clock smith before the move. Our team can't take responsibility for any potential damage to these beautiful items during the move.
If you own a pool table, we recommend that you contact a billiards professional for moving and disassembling. Trained professionals can ensure that the table is level during reassembly. If you do want us to move and disassemble these items, damage waivers are required. Please remember that anything we need to take apart and put together also adds time to your move and can impact your costs.
Finally, particleboard furniture isn't heavy or difficult to carry, but it's also not designed to be moved. In many cases, this furniture does fall apart and is damaged easily. This is something you should consider when preparing for your move in Connecticut and beyond.
